Tips for Productive 1-1s:
- Arrive Prepared: Come with a clear agenda and be ready to discuss topics relevant to your work. Prioritize what you want to discuss beforehand, ensuring a focused and productive conversation.
- Communicate Openly: Share feedback openly with your team lead, discussing both achievements and challenges.
- Seek Feedback: If you feel the need for more feedback or guidance, actively ask your team lead for their insights. Foster an environment where constructive criticism is welcome, and use it as an opportunity for improvement.
- Discuss Roadblocks: Address any obstacles or challenges you're facing in your role and collaborate on finding solutions.
- Explore Professional Development Opportunities: Utilize the 1-1 meeting to explore professional development opportunities, discussing goals, skill enhancement, and career growth.
- Plan for the Future: Discuss upcoming projects, priorities, and align on expectations for the coming weeks.
- Take Notes: Conclude the meeting with clear action items and follow-up steps to ensure progress. Make sure to write them down.
Remember, 1-1 meetings are a two-way street. Actively participate and use the time to not only address work-related matters but also to strengthen the overall working relationship with your team lead.
